This is a common rose in North India. It is popularly cultivated as a cut flower for use as ritual offering and for garlands due to it's colour and fragrance. It is known as 'Desi Gulab' in North India, which translates to country rose. 'Desi Gulab' is a term which is applied to roses which are usually grown as own roots and have been integrated into culture of the land since so long that people assume they are native varieties and their true IDs are forgotten. This is a very fragrant, hardy and vigorous rose in our climate where winter temperatures are as low as 2°C and summer temperatures reach 45°C. The rose performs best between ranges of 12°C and 30°C. It is a frequent bloomer, and the flowers have a low shelf life. In our climate this a disease free rose, and flowers can be 3" Across. This specimen is cultivated in my garden in Gurgaon in the Delhi NCR region of the Northern Plains of India, which is a low humidity region for most parts of the year. This rose doesn't particularly like humidity. Given a dry cool and sunny climate it thrives.
