Origin:
Bred by Unknown(Japan) (Japan, before 1836).
Introduced in Netherlands by Philipp von Siebold in 1836 as 'Patens'.
Class:
Group 3, Species.  
Bloom:
Deep blue, purple stamens, ages to pink .  6 to 8 petals.  Average diameter 5".  Large, single bloom form.  Mid-to-late summer.  
Habit:

Height: 6' to 8' (185 to 245cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Plant in sun or partial shade.  Suitable for growing in a container.  It blooms on the previous year's growth, so resist the urge to prune it in early spring.  In early spring, cut back to just above the lowest set of healthy buds.
