Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1992-93 Hybrid Teas.
'Louise Gardner' (MACerupt); McGredy 1988. 'Freude' x 'Landora' seedling; deep yellow tipped bright red; 45 reports on 51 bushes; 1-5 years; 1.4 metres; 7.4 rating. Upright growing tallish bush bearing rather small flat blooms in an attractive golden colour with red edging to the petals. Some reports state that it is more like a floribunda than a HT. Colour is the best feature many feel, foliage is sparse and it is outstanding when the weather is hot and dry, spots in the rain. It is a very good picking rose, blooms late in the spring. Very subject to downy mildew in areas where this disease is a problem. A colourful garden type only.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1991-92 Season.
'Louise Gardner' (MACerupt) McGredy 1988; 'Freude'x 'Landora' Seedling; deep yellow tipped bright red; 13 reports on 14 bushes; 1-3 years; l.4 metres; 7.4 rating. Upright growing tallish bush bearing rather small flat blooms in an attractive golden colour with a red edging to petals. Most reporters say it is very healthy but Wairarapa reports rust and Manawatu downy mildew. North Otago comments on the sparse foliage and the need to disbud as it flowers more like a Floribunda than HT. Blooms cut and last well, great colour in the garden, prefers hot dry weather, spots in the rain and blooms late in the spring. The attractive glowing colour is the best feature.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1990-91 Season.
'Louise Gardner' MACrupt; McGredy 1988; gold/apricot/vermillion scarlet; 'Freud' x 'Landora' Seedling; 13 reports on 13 bushes; 1-3 years; 1.2 metres; 7.3 rating. In the far north, weather damages the blooms' colour, and in Manawatu the blooms are very small. Elsewhere in the country, growers are more than satisfied with Louise. Lots of blooms all season, no fading and great eyecatching colour, all combined with strength, vigour and health. It is definitely more like a floribunda in the manner of bloom production, but the parents are equally definitely defined as Hybrid Tea roses. It can be slow to establish and blooms come towards the end of spring. Bloom form is classical HT. It produces "feathers" in the leaf axils down the stem as 'Super Star' and 'Alexander' do. A very worthwhile garden variety for your garden anywhere in the country.
