Thomas, Jr., p. 24:] Grafting is a modification of budding, and is a process which may give as good a result in the end with some outdoor roses; but for the first year, after planting outside, the plant does not make as much progress, and [Thomas' ] death-rate has been much greater with grafted stock than with budded plants.
