The owners of Melrose Plantation, Robert and Bennett, are restoring the buildings and grounds. Using historic documents and research, Robert Bennett has designed a formal Roseraie with two hundred varieties of roses culminating with a circular holly maze surrounded by fifty Chinese Chestnut trees. The varieties chosen are fragrant and old-fashioned.
The newest rose garden at Melrose Plantation is a smaller-scaled version for young children -- little benches, petite statues and miniature roses. (The miniature roses are not yet included in the catalog, but will be shortly.)
