I ordered one plant from them, first time, this past May. When it arrived, some of the canes were black at the ends -- not a good sign. I cut it back & planted it, and I've planted many bare-root roses & know how to do it. But this one was d-e-a-d. So I asked Hortico for a replacement and they said it was no longer in stock, and they couldn't replace till next year.

OK. I'll wait, as it's not an easy rose to find; but I hope I'm not wasting time/money. They have a good reputation, I know people who have bought from them for years, but I must say, the first impression was not a good one.

I have ordered several roses from them and most either die or are mislabled. I ordered one rose four years ago and they still don't have it for me!

Greetings Gardeners!

We had our first hard frost early this week which enables us to dig the roses early!

This year we pre-labeled each of over 100,000 roses individually with a bar-code identifier to help with inventory control. The Website is updated with current availability ~ there are over 2000 varieties to choose from this fall!

Let us know if we can help in any way ~ until then have a fantastic autumn!

Warm Regards from all of us here @ hortico

I have read many things about Hortico, good and bad. For two years I didn't order from them because of things I had read. However, they have a fantastic selection of roses, that are hard to find anywhere else. So this fall I ordered some roses for pick up, and paid by cheque. My order was delayed, and some roses listed as available, were not. However, my Customer Service rep was great, and I always knew the status of my order. I also knew that some of the roses are sourced, and even though they expect them by a certain date they may not receive them. The end result: I received 19 great roses, they were healthy and in good condition. I was also pleased with the service I received. I think Hortico is a good supplier, they just need to improve their inventory control system.

I can second that. After reading many mixed reviews all over the web, I decided to roll the dice, mostly because of their astonishing selection. Of four plants ordered, two arrived in excellent shape and are leafing out well. The other two turned out not to be in stock after all, and will be shipped in the fall. I'm perfectly fine with this. Sure - inventory control could be improved, but in many cases, where else are you going to find some of these things?

Now if only they stocked Prairie Peace...

Good luck with "they'll be sent in the Fall". The second time my "back orders" weren't shipped in the Fall and I failed to receive any refund nor replacement plants, I wrote them off. Yes, they LIST an amazing collection. It should be interesting to see how many are properly named and how many actually live.

Well, as I said, It's a roll of the dice. They get one chance. If they screw it up, they'll lose me, and my voice will be added to their chorus of detractors. But I still intend to give them the chance. The people who've had positive experiences can't all be astroturf.

The two plants that arrived so far appear to be correct as far as I can tell with no blooms. They're at least the right type. And one's Carmenetta, which should be pretty hard to misidentify even as a bare-root. They both seem very healthy so far.
