Terra Nigra was established in 1971 and is primarily concerned with the breeding and propagation of Gerbera and Rose varieties. Terra Nigra was in the forefront of tissue culture for the cultivation of ornamental plants. They introduced plants on rock wool and developed the world-famous Germini family of smaller Gerberas suitable for new uses like bouquets, flower arrangements and corsages. Terra Nigra has also led the way with the roses 'Tineke' and 'Grand Prix'. They have approximately 45 commercial rose varieties that are grown all over the world. Every year, they introduce new varieties. Their exhibition greenhouse is located in Kudelstaart.
