Different versions and different dates are mentioned in the references.

Hmm. Should HMF add Robert Mellville or George Melville as the discoverer of the WA sport? Or Mellville Bros.?

It sounds as though the weeping version was the American version from Weeks, 1977; and that the climbing version was discovered by Bob Melville in 1965 and introduced (“developed”) by his father, George Melville in perhaps 1974. At least that’s my guess. But it would be nice if we could hear from the horse’s mouth on this.

Aug 6, 2010 Later edit. An email from Bob Melville to me says: "Yes that is correct Robert Hardman Melville discovered the rose and introduced and developed it with his father George Melville."

This is a wonderful restrained climber, much superior to 'Cl. Pinkie' in my opinion.
