‘Conditorum’ /’Hungarian Rose’ /Rosa gallica conditorum /’Tidbit Rose’ = Gallique… Buissonnant et touffu, haut d’environ 1m… tiges vert sombre et peu épineuses… abondant feuillage gris-vert, d’aspect un peu rude... gros bouquets de fleurs très odorantes, bien droites sur leurs tiges, rouge cramoisi lavé de rose cerise et irisé de magenta. Tout juste doubles et un peu décoiffées, elles s’ouvrent en révélant leurs étamines jaune vif, et atteignent alors 8cm de diamètre. Ce rosier présente de nombreux points communs avec la rose de Provins (‘Apothecary’s Rose’). 1629.

According to La Roche, this rose is the old variety 'Zuckerrosen', listed by the Nuremberg botanist, Joachim Camerarius (1534-1598), in his Hortus medicus et philosophicus of 1588; it also corresponds to the Rosa hungarica of Parkinson (1629)... In Hungary, 'Conditorum' was used to make rose water and confections (hence its name which means "of the confectioners"). From Hungary, it was introduced in Germany in 1889 by the botanist Dieck...
