'Dr A. J. Verhage'  Short   Yellow    Remontant  P5   H3    ***
This is not a great garden rose, but it is one of the most rewarding to grow under glass and it is more than useful as a parent. The colour is not plain yellow, but a rich yellow with the slightest suggestion of bronze. The form of the flowers, and the scent cannot fail to please. It was raised by G. Verbeek & Zn. of Aalsmeer, Holland, a breeder whose speciality is roses for growers of cut flowers; of that trade……'Dr A. J. Verhage' was raised from 'Tawny Gold' x (‘Baccara' x seedling) and introduced in 1962. It is also known as 'Golden Wave'.

Bernard Tunnicliffe, Wanganui. NZ. Certain roses will grow well in the Mediterranean type of climate but are utter failures in England. ....and 'Dr. Verhage' are examples that depend on a warmer climate than England has to offer. Here I would put in a plea for 'Dr. Verhage' as the most beautiful of all yellows if grown in a warm sunny spot in the North island. It moves through its stages slowly because of its 'Baccara' blood and unlike most yellows is beautiful even when fully blown.....
