Mike Lowe says Duchess of Portland is a Damask Perpetual and assigns it a date of 1782... Parentage uncertain, see References for more information. The speculation that 'Slater's Crimson China' was one of the parents was disproved by DNA Analysis at the Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France. Sangerhausen describe the color of the bloom of The Portland Rose as light red.
