Mary MacKillop was the founder of the St. Joseph’s Order in Australia. The variety produces enormous quantities of well formed, soft pink roses over a very long period – no sooner is one crop over than another is on the way, which makes ‘Mary MacKillop’ a superb rose for bedding and borders. The flowers are produced both singly and in small, well-spaced clusters on a plant that is extremely dense and well foliaged, and has an excellent resistance to disease. Mother Mary MacKillop dedicated her life to educating children in Australia’s outback, and her reward is that she is set to become Saint Mary of the Cross, Australia’s first saint. The rose dedicated to her is a charmer, with fragrant shell-pink blooms with deeper touches. Perfectly formed, they are of medium size and are borne in clusters of up to half a dozen on a sturdy, glossy-leafed bush. Raised in California by Armstrong, it was introduced in 1989.
