Editor McFarland and Bonne Nouvelle are also moderately strong in growth and blooming habits. The former frequently dies back, but comes again with roses of real quality.

Editor McFarland (Mallerin, 1931) —In Auckland district this is, in my opinion, the best of all the pinks. The colour is a trifle hard — somewhat like Una Wallace — but it gives more blooms of more pleasing form. Profuse bloomer over a long period and excellent for the show bench.

For example, Una Wallace has long stems, sparse foliage, and few thorns, which distinguish it from Editor McFarland, and very little perfume, which distinguishes it from Mrs. Bryce Allan and Patrick Anderson. All of these are deep pinks.

Editor McFarland (H.T.) (C. Mallerin, 1931) —Undoubtedly the best all-round pink rose I grow. It is exceedingly vigorous and free blooming. Though the colour is at times rather hard, it is a good clear pink. A large proportion of the blooms are up to show standard, and a really good "Editor" is an aristocrat that appeals to all lovers of the beautiful. The blooms stand up nicely amidst lovely foliage. It makes an excellent standard. Little scent.

« Editor Mac Farland », plus ancienne, n'a peut-être pas la même délicatesse [as Mme Auguste Châtain], mais sa grande et belle fleur est d'un coloris rose franc intense, rappelant celui de « Madame Jules Grolez », qui n'est pas tellement répandu chez nos roses modernes. Le rosier est vigoureux, à végétation élevée, souple et très florifère.
