Registration name: Oeillet (centifolia, Poilpré, 1789)

Discovered by Poilpré (France, 1789). Discovered by Unknown (circa 1790).
Introduced in France by André Du Pont in 1800 as 'Unguiculata caryophyllata'.

Centifolia, Gallica / Provins.  

Light pink, light yellow stripes.  Flowers bright pink, sometimes variegated.  Strong, clove fragrance.  Small to medium, double (17-25 petals), in small clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  

Bushy, upright, well-branched.  

Height: 2' to 4'1" (60 to 125cm).  

USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood..  Prune after flowering is finished.  

The 1936/1937 catalog of Ketten Freres lists Oeillet as a Centifolia and says the breeder and date of introduction is Dupont 1800. 'Oeillet' was found in Le Mans, in a crop of centifolias, later propagated by Poilpré and by Dupont. For more information about Breeder, see References.
