Page 58: Rosa centifolia carnea ('Vilmorin Rose') Description... Flowers medium-sized, almost fully double, a very pleasant flesh colour distinct from the common centifolia, but similar to that of R. bifera carnea which is distinguished by the receptacle shape and the almost round, simply dentate leaflets. This fine rose commemorates Vilmorin, who had a complete collection of roses long before Du Pont, and introduced and propagated it some 15 or 16 years ago. It is very prone to colour mutation, especially when vigorours, so that on a single root one finds flesh-coloured, pink and parti-coloured blooms...

Vilmorin This is a pale form of the Old Cabbage Rose, which was noted for inconstancy of colour, often returning to the type when grown from layers. Budding, Redoute says, is the only method of preserving it true. Named after M. Vilmorin, the famous nurseryman and seedsman of Paris, who collected a large number of roses before Dupont.
