In the China Rose group, known or suspected Hybrid Chinas become more apparent withboth the nuclear and chloroplast data plotted together. Th nuclear SSR data by itself revealed those China cultivars that had SSR profiles more closely matching the Teas...
'Jean Bach Sisley', 'Ducher', and 'Miss Lowe's Variety'...are three China/Hybrid China Roses that grouped in the Tea Type group based on SSR profiles, and they also share a haplotype with the R. odorata var. gigantea accession from China...rather than the haplotype of the majority of the China Roses.
...The surprising cultivar is 'Miss Lowe's Variety', which is of unknown parentage, but has been speculated to be a dwarf sport of 'Slater's Crimson China' (Cairns (ed.), 2000). The SSR data already proved this incorrect for the 'Slater's Crimson China' accession in this study and also that it was unlikely that 'Miss Lowe's Variety' was a sport of any China Rose based on its profile. The combination of the SSR PCoorA and the chloroplast haplotype data indicate that 'Miss Lowe's Variety' is actually a dwarf rose with strong Tea Rose type background.

Miss Lowe's Variety Ch. Rapid rebloom. Moderate fragrance. Habit [diagram]1. Lowe, 1887. [Provenance unknown]. Sculpted, single flowers of velvety crimson-scarlet are produced in such profusion and continuity as few other roses. We have listed this incorrectly as a synonym for 'Sanguinea'. We do suspect it is the same as 'Crimson Bengale', however.

....two other single varieties are in cultivation, mainly in southern England. The first is 'Sanguinea' which may be a seedling or mutation of Semperflorens but has longer petals, often with a narrow white stripe on each flower. Miss Lowe, a nearly identical form, is differentiated on its reputedly slightly dwarfed habit and smaller flower.
