Pic. is from 2011 Austin Catalog stating Evelyn having 100 petals. See EXPOSED yellow stamens which makes its old rose / peaches scent powerful. Never see RMV, blackspots, rust, mildew, nor proliferation for the past decade. It's the healthiest rose among my 160 fragrant varieties, and deer and rabbits don't eat it. Last long in the vase and gives a massive spring flush over 100 blooms.

Pic. is from 2016 Austin Catalog showing the 2nd version of Evelyn with buttonhole and irregular petals, which is DIFFERENT from the 1st version in 2011 Austin catalog with exposed yellow stamens and 100 smaller petals. Looking back through Austin catalogs dating back to 2011, there zero bush shot of Evelyn in any of the catalogs to show the leaves & stems & thorns.

2011 Austin catalog stated Evelyn has 100 petals, versus 70 petals in Abe. Darby. Pic. is my 12th-year own root Evelyn (spring 2024 flush), NEVER see RMV (rose mosaic virus), rust, blackspots, mildew nor proliferation. Evelyn is the HEALTHIEST rose among my 160 fragrant own root varieties. In contrast, own root Abe. Darby is prone to blackspots and rabbits eat Abe. The center of Evelyn, or base of petals is more yellow than Abraham Darby.

David Austin website states Evelyn has having 100 petals, versus only 70 petals in Abraham Darby. Also Evelyn has old rose/peaches scent, versus Abe's sharp citrus scent. My 1st version of Evelyn can be pruned hard to 2.5 feet, massive spring flush and the repeat is very fast. Pic. is my 12th-year own root Evelyn: much healthier & throws longer octopus canes as a baby, and lasts longer in the vase than Abe. Darby.
