Bred by Comte Jean-Baptiste Lelieur de Ville-sur-Arce (France, before 1817).
Introduced in France by Jean-Pierre Vibert in before 1820 as 'La Moderne'.
Introduced in France by Julien-Alexandre Hardy / Roseraie du Luxembourg in before 1837 as 'La Moderne'.

Portland.  
Bloom:
Light pink to purple, yellow undertones.  Strong, sweet fragrance.  20 to 25 petals.  Large, very double, in small clusters bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  Glandular sepals buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  Dark green foliage.  5 to 7 leaflets.  

Height: 30" to 3' (75 to 90cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
