'Doris Downes' rose Reviews & Comments

Further to the Description page's observation that 'La France' parentage is "suggested." Reading the various 1931 remarks, to me it sounds more like the writer is just trying to get across an idea of what characteristics remind him of rather than suggesting actual parentage, much as I might say "A pineapple looks like a cross between a Leek and a Crocodile," without meaning that it actually was a cross between a Leek and a Crocodile. One stumbles across such "looks like" remarks scattered, fortunately rather sparsely, all through the pageant of rose literature, and I'm wary of taking them too literally.

There is a good photo of 'Doris Downes' which should be in HelpMefind. It is in the 'Australian Rose Annual', 1932, page 45. Mine is a photocopy and would be blurry. Can anybody else upload this photo.

Thank you. It appears to match the existing rose.
