Alister Clark.  Rose Notes From Glenara,
Amongst the newer Roses worthy of notice, I place Allen's Fragrant Pillar, which is out of the common and may prove an acquisition. Its very large flowers are apt to burn in hot weather, but I have great hopes of it. One can often form a very good idea of what the parents were by carefully examining a Rose, but this Rose is quite distinct in leaf and fruit, and if it were a "Glenara" seedling I would suspect its parents to be Gigantea and Kitty Kininmonth, but, of course, that is most unlikely in an English-bred Rose.

New Roses 1933.  Fragrant Pillar Clb. HT. (Allen 1931) F. 5.  Long-pointed buds, opening to double cerise pink blooms which are wonderfully fragrant.  It is continuously in bloom and promises well.  E.
