Origin:

Bred by Alister Clark (1864-1949) (Australia, before 1918).
Introduced in Australia by E. & W. Hackett Ltd. in 1919 as 'Black Boy'.
Introduced in France by Grandes Roseraies du Val de la Loire in 1923 as 'Black Boy'.

Class:

Large-Flowered Climber.

Bloom:

Crimson, dark brown shading. Moderate fragrance. Very large, semi-double to double, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Long, pointed buds.

Habit:

Climbing.

Height: 13'1" (400cm). Width: 9'10" (300cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Hardy. very vigorous.

Patents:

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Parentage:

Étoile de France (hybrid tea, Pernet-Ducher, 1904) × Bardou Job
