Sam McGredy: A painter had a housekeeper named Bobby Lucas, of whom he was extremely fond. He died before her. When his will was read, it was found he'd left $5,000 to have a rose named after her. I sent his solicitors a selection of new roses so they could pick a suitable one. The one they chose as 'Bobby Lucas' did moderately well.

'Bobbie Lucas'. N.R.S. Rating 6.9 (S.MCredy 1967). Height 3 feet. Flowers an attractive deep salmon/orange. Not a vigorous grower and does not repeat quickly enough, also it is not consistent in its performance.

'Bobbie Lucas' . 17 reports; 4 years; Average height 36"; N.R.S. rating 5.9. Greymouth: Nice colour, average grower only. Not very vigorous. Rotorua: Disappointed. Not vigorous - disease prone. Slow to repeat. Wanganui: Rust, blackspot. What a pity for such a nice Iow growing rose.
