‘Australian Bicentennial’. Syn. ‘The Australian Bicentennial Rose’. Modern, large flowered hybrid tea. Medium red. Repeat flowering. This rose, as the name makes plain, commemorates the occasion in 1788 when the first British settlement was made in what is now Sydney. The flowers are very fragrant, fairly full, with substantial petals in a rich deep pink shade verging on rose red. They appear in summer and autumn and are held close to the dark green leaves on a plant of average size. At this stage it seems to be confined to gardens in its country of origin. Zones 5-9. Bell, Australia, 1988. (‘Daily Sketch’ x ‘Impeccable’) x ‘Red Planet.
