Origin:
Bred by Auguste Nonin & Fils (France, before 1910).
Class:
Hybrid Multiflora, Rambler.  
Bloom:
Deep blue, purple shading.  Mild to strong fragrance.  10 to 20 petals.  Average diameter 1.5".  Small to medium, semi-double to double, in large clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Climbing.  

Height: 11½' to 12' (350 to 365cm).  Width: 8' to 10' (245 to 305cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 5b and warmer.  Prune after flowering is finished.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
'Amethyste' in commerce is often 'Rose-Marie Viaud' (only bristles), or 'Purple East'
The Peter Beales Collection of Classic Roses 2000-2001 says 'Améthyst' is a Rambler with large clusters of violet-crimson flowers.
