Charles Darwin, free. H.R. – Laxton, 1879. (Sent out by G. Paul.) Raised from Madame Julie Daran. Brownish-crimson, with a shade of violet, very beautiful and distinct; mildews easily.

I think Laxton's statement means that Mme. Julie Daran was the seed parent. Pollen parent unknown.

In 1869 I raised H.P.'s Mrs. Laxton, probably from Mme. Victor Verdier, Charles Darwin from Madame Julie Daran, this being the dark H.P., Rose of Bourbon blood par excellence, of which I sowed the seed in that year, and Emily Laxton perhaps from Abet Grande.
