Origin:
Bred by Jean Laffay (France, 1827).
Class:
Hybrid China, Hybrid Gallica.  
Bloom:
Dark red, lilac outer petals.  Medium to large, very full (41+ petals), in small clusters, cupped, expanded , reflexed bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  Glandular sepals, leafy sepals buds.  
Habit:
Upright.  Matte, light green foliage.  5 to 7 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
Georgios Karaiskakis (January 23, 1780 - April 23, 1827), hero of the Greek war of independence.
Prévost considered 'Karaiskaki' among Gallicas, although it was listed as a hybrid China by Laffay. Boitard made 2 distinct roses out of this: a hybrid China by Laffay and a Gallica by Prévost.
