Jennifer Stackhouse. A Family of Roses.
Recently I delved into a bit of family and garden history. My great grandfather, G. H. E. Heers (George Heers, 1873-1956) was a rose grower and breeder in Queensland.....'Grandfather' as he is always called in the family.....Grandfather bred his own roses selecting for heat tolerance for the subtropical Queensland conditions..... More recently I've found mention of a rose called The Allies, a small pink Polyantha, which is growing at 'The Shambles', a garden at Montford in Queensland. The owner and Heritage Roses (in) Australia website date this rose to 1930.
