Alister Clark. Save the Roses. I have had good seedlings from 'Betty Berkeley' and .... to name a few and yet cannot now procure plants of them. It is easy to see that we may lose Roses that are invaluable for breeding.

Alister Clark. Hybridisation at "Glenara". I have found Herr Peter Lambert's 'Gustave Grunerwald' a fine seed parent, and using the pollen of 'Betty Berkeley' on it I got 'Sunny South', one of the few roses in my garden that I would not like to alter in any one way. .... I think I have proved that ...'Betty Berkeley' is a potent pollen parent. .... Probably 'Betty Berkeley' has been thrown away by most growers in the race to procure all the Pernetiana novelties, and we are losing many of our fine old French tea roses from the same cause.
