Peter Elliott. The Importance of Pointing for Judges.
....I have heard people say they are tired of the same cultivars always winning at shows - 'Irresistible' and Kaikoura are examples. The main reason for this is that these two cultivars meet almost all the criteria for judging and surpass other cultivars.

Kaikoura Brick red. I was not going to put it on my list, as I'm sure that most of the others will. It seems to be indispensable, especially in the fully open class.

p30. Liz France. Five Favourite Small Roses.
Kaikoura a flame red, is my pick for an ideal fully open bloom for the show table. The plant always appears healthy and the blooms last well picked.

p31. Irene Taylor. Five Favourite Small Roses.
Kaikoura A stunner in the garden. It just glows. Bright orange-red flat blooms with dark green foliage which make show winning small and large stems. A very useful rose for vase classes.

p33. Phyllis Collins. Five Favourite Small Roses.
Kaikoura is a great 'all rounder'. The bright orange/red blooms look great in the garden, great in a vase and great on the show bench. The bush is healthy too.

p34. Fr. Paul G. Shannahan sm. Five Favourite Small Roses.
Kaikoura. Like so many other growers I find it is hard to surpass the judging standards for this brick red, balanced rose. Its shape and leaf arrangement are so attractive.

p36. Stuart Pinfold. Five Favourite Small Roses.
Our use of many different varieties for use as small stems can be boiled down to one favourite. Kaikoura has few peers on the whole. I think the stem, foliage, etc. is decisive here, being usually outstanding. Petal texture is good which means it will hold a freshness for a good while, another plus. It is good for other categories also, but I do not agree with some judges who favour it as a fully open bloom where its flatness of flower is not desirable.

Kaikoura This one is hard to explain as it is flat and red and beautiful with nice sidebuds and appears regularly at the shows. Sometimes the stalks are rather short, I find, but when you get a good one it is hard to beat.

p32. Helen and Derrol White. Favourite Exhibiting Roses. Miniature type Roses. Small Stem.
Who could go past Kaikoura for small stems? Provided in great quanitities these are usually of excellent shape and the brick red colour is a bright spot in the garden.

p32. Helen and Derrol White. Favourite Exhibiting Roses. Miniature type Roses. Large Stem.
Kaikoura would also head the list of favourites for large stems. These occur naturally and apart from removing that centre bud very little pre show preparation is needed. The foliage is well balanced and a clean green.

p34 Janet Pike. Favourite Exhibiting Roses. Miniature Type Roses. Small Stem:
Kaikoura has been a real winner for me. I have four plants and can always rely on them to give good blooms or stems.

p35. Pauline Waller. Favourite Exhibiting Roses. Miniature Type Roses. large Stem:
Kaikoura This is another of my favourites and has great success on the show bench. A very healthy rose, the lovely dark green foliage gives balance to the vermilion red blooms. Very striking in the garden and on the bench. Just like 'Patio Prince' it also makes a nice small stem as well.
