The flowers are darker than the camera makes them appear and the dark shades on the petals go quite black in the sun. The plant has been slow to establish during the long cool spring but seems to be happier now summer has properly arrived. I think I might quite like this one. My garden at Mount Macedon 8 Jan 2021. Plant from John Nieuwesteeg.
Makes an interesting comparison with Linton Boy (next to it in the bed at Maddingley Park). Some think Linton Boy is Red Letter Day, parent of Midnight Sun. Visibly plausible when they are side by side.
Flowers neater and more regular than Red Letter Day but the plant looks equally spindly and twiggy, and possibly even more susceptible to B.S. and Mildew. My garden at Mount Macedon 8 Jan 2021. Plant from John Nieuwesteeg.
