At the top of his [Admiral Ward] list was the name of the greatest rosarian in the world, M. Pernet-Ducher of Lyons. From this unusual friendship came the introduction of such roses as Willowmere, named for Admiral Ward's beautiful home-place at Roslyn, Long Island. ...Later two other species were added, Raymond and Franklin, the names of the Admiral's regretted sons.

Le Concours des Roses nouvelles de Bagatelle....Deux autres Rosiers de M. Pernet-Ducher : Président Bouché et Raymond, ont été mis hors concours, sur la demande de l’obtenteur, en raison de la médaille d’or qu’il venait déjà d’obtenir.

Raymond (Pernetiana). — Arbuste très vigoureux, a rameaux buissonnants et dressés, feuillage vert luisant; bouton long; fleur très grande, bien pleine, en forme de coupe allongée, pétales extérieurs rose fleur de pêcher, centre carmin saumoné parfois carmin orangé, ton lups chaud à la base des pétales. Issue de variété inédite X Rayon d'Or. Absolument rustique, cette nouvelle rose, à floraison abondante, sera une excellente acquisition comme rose de massifs.
