This was probably the best of the series. Pink was basically the ugliest Queen Elizabeth possible. Yellow was forgettable. White was even more forgettable. And the mauve and purples ones were.... defoliated from head to do by June.
if I recall, these were huge sellers for J/P. They were forerunners, not in health or aesthetics, but in concept, to roses like Bonica and Knock Out. In other words, they were more easily produced roses that could be sold in large quantities for profit and color. Iceberg, which the Simplicity series was based off of, is now sometimes sold in this mass fashion. The irony is that the common stock out paced the glory of the market it bred. That is because Iceberg truly is a reliable, consistent rose in many places. The Simplicity series usually was not.
With all that said, this one was actually pretty nice.
It's odd. While one can get a true red if one's parents are both heavily influenced reds, yellow is diametrically and quantitatively in opposition. Even so, my biggest leap of faith would be that they would chose Sunflare over Sunsprite. The latter appreciably stronger in landscape purposes.
First, the patent misspells Warriner's name. Then, it says the other parent is indeed red.
I am guessing the other parent parent of Pink Simplicity is a red. Maybe the same one. It's possible that Simplicity's parent is either a descendent of Siren or its directly from Viva. I don't believe the parent of either is unknown (seriously a tired trick, where only a small portion have truly unknown or unknown to public parents).
Here in Silicon Valley, RED SIMPLICITY is still blooming in December! SummerWinds Nursery planted this floribunda along with WHITE SIMPLICITY in the frontyard of its store about 6 years ago. It truly is a rugged rose, about 3.5 feet high, and still putting out rosebuds, despite the cold weather dropping to 30* at night and the 40's during the days! I have been seraching the Bay Area for this rose . . . Does anyone know which nursery is selling it ? It's just a shame, that such a beautiful rose is no longer available!
does this rose resemble a tea rose, the flower part? Does it blum all spring, summer and fall? How big are the flowers and are there lots of them? I'm thinking about using them above my retaining wall. What do you think? Thank You

do you mean does the blossom resemble a hybrid tea? the answer is "sort of" - initially the bloom form is hybrid tea like, but overall, it's more like a floribunda - it blooms in clusters and unfurls to a flattish form. The blooms are about 3" across. don't know what you mean "above your retaining wall" so cannot comment.
