The blooms are flat and held outward, only if it is very rainy do they nod. If damp they fail to open, and the edge turns brown. May 3, 2012

Lisette with Red Rocks penstemon, and purple Homestead verbena. Mother's Day is to the left, and lavender is nearby. "Raydon's Favorite" aster is across the path on the right, it all looks great in the fall.

The center usually looks darker than the surrounding petals, but I think that the center is darker only because of the number of petals that need to open. Only the edges can be a darker color. May 3, 2012 zone 5

The color is quite variable, it develops over the day, the color is not consistent from bloom to bloom, and the coloring is very dependent on the weather. Photo taken May 3, 2012 zone 5
