TRIOMPHE DE FLORE. Rouen, before 1829. Habit: uptight shrub; medium height. Foliage: dark green; elliptical or rounded leaflets; clearly serrated. Bloom: full, quatered, a few yellow-green stamens and reflexed petals in the centre. Colour: flesh-pink; edges pinkish white. Fragrance: moderate.
Descemet...obtained a first "Triomphe de Flore"....It is this variety which is at L'Haÿ, however so weak...that it is difficult to verify. Then, another gallica, obtained before 1829, was also named "Triomphe de Flore". One finds it in the catalogue Prévost of Rouen in 1829. ...It is described there as "thick branches, glandular, without prickles, ordinarily purple at the top. Medium size bloom, very full, regular, pink, pale edges." Although commercialized by Prévost, there is nothing which proves that it is one of his cultivars: In ghis catalogue of Luxembourg, in 1852-1860, Hardy, who generally notes the names of the breeders, contents himself here with mentioning "Rouen". It is theoretically this variety described above which is in the collection of Sangerhausen. However, it resembles "Duchesse de Montebello" in a troubling manner.
