Hi there,

I just loved that rose but I lost my rosebush last winter... I live in Canada and there's no nurserie that have it in stock. If you know a nursery that is ready to ship to Canada, please post their address or website here.

I hope I will be able to find my favorite rosebush one day.

Thanks. Sylvia

This is a pretty rose, but if you're looking for fragrance don't buy it. The Jackson Perkins website claimed that it had a strong vanilla perfume, hence the name. I cannot detect any fragrance at all, and it seems that others on this website have the same problem with it.

Julie........

Thank you for your comment. Fragrance in roses is very variable. Not only do human noses respond to scent differently, roses compound the problem by releasing scent in different ways.

There are some roses that are "smelly" all of the time. Others only release scent from their petals in the morning. Some roses don't have any scent until the temperatures reach a certain level. Others will only release scent when fully opened.

Smiles,

Lyn

Hi Julie,

"Vanilla Perfume" - this is the first rose that I ever REALY liked. I liked it because of it's warm cream color and its fine fragrance (but it's not strong). The rose looks warm and smells just fine - than I decide to grow the rose in my garden. I've never grow a rose before... and I really like it. If the rose will die of winter (will see..) I'll defenetly find the sort again to grow it. I will grow in my garden only roses that are fragrant.

Regards,
Alexander from Russia.

Thank you Lyn and Alexander for your insight. Perhaps my climate is to blame for the lack of fragrance. I live in San Jose (CA) and it can get pretty hot here. I've asked 4 or 5 people who have been at my home if they can smell the rose, and none could detect a fragrance. I'm not sure what time of the day it was, or how open the blooms were. For Alexander-All of the roses in my garden were chosen because of fragrance. My top three picks out of my yard are- Memorial Day, Sheila's Perfume, and New Zealand. There are many more, but that's a start for you.

I really like this one! The flowers are suposed to be creamy yellow but under our heat it also gets reddish tones especialy on the edges. But I like it that way! The flowers are very full and star shaped, no fragrance detected yet. They last long in a vase and don't bleach under the sun. Quite short, only 2-3 feet tall for now, 2 year old bush.
