R. × barbieriana Rehd. – This is a re-naming by Rehder of the hybrid between R. wichuraiana and ‘Crimson Rambler’, raised by Barbier of Orleans and misleadingly named R. wichuraiana rubra by André. The same cross, made in the USA by Walsh, was named ‘Evangeline’ (see p. 180).

Bloom 4 to 5 cm across, single, vivid carmine-red passing to carmine-pink, with whitish center. Vigorous shrub, beautiful glossy dark green foliage, bloomsJune-July for several weeks. Well usable for all climbing rose purposes.
