Origin:

Bred by Michael Henry Horvath (United States, before 1898).
Introduced in United States by Pitcher and Manda Nursery in before 1898 as 'Gardenia'.
Introduced in Australia by Hawter’s Nurseries in 1909 as 'Gardenia'.

Class:

Hybrid Wichurana, Rambler.

Bloom:

Cream, light yellow center, ages to white . Mild to strong, green apple fragrance. 12 petals. Average diameter 3". Medium, semi-double (9-16 petals), borne mostly solitary, cupped, quartered bloom form. Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.

Habit:

Climbing. Small, glossy, dark green foliage.

Height: 15' to 20' (455 to 610cm). Width: 12' to 15' (365 to 455cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b and warmer. Very hardy. very vigorous. drought resistant. shade tolerant. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant, susceptible to blackspot , susceptible to Mildew. Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) . Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection). Prune after flowering is finished.
