By crossing R. roxburghii with R. beggeriana Geschwind got hardy hybrids with climbing growth. Further cross-breeding led him to a series of roses he called Nordlandrosen. The most popular variety of this series is Geschwind's Nordlandrose Nr. I. Its silvery pink flowers which appear a second time on older specimens in autumn are in my view unique among roses.

Rosa multiflora 'Gschwinds Nordland' Growth: Upright to slightly arching. Foliage: fresh green. Blooms: The buds are pink to wine-red, while the expanded blooms are soft pink double and have a diameter of approx. 8 cm. The plants are very floriferous. Fruit: Orange-red, elongated, up to 2 cm long. Prickles scattered, but mainly at the base. Sepals up to 1,5 cm long, broad, calyx open. Prickles: Irregularly distributed along the green, red shaded branches.

....while many park roses, including Adam Messerich, Hildenbrandseck, Türke's Rugosa-Sämling, many Bourbon roses, Geschwinds Nordlandrose I and II, as well as all climbers are frozen until below the snow cover, but willingly sprout again, so that next year one can count on a beautiful bloom. The snow cover was up to 35-40 cm, the lowest temperature -28-30 °C.

Nordland-Roses (see R. setigera) Geschwinds Nordlandrose (Breeder Geschwind, released 1927 by Gräfin Chotek from his inheritance): Buds of three to five on the stalk, reverse shaded darker; medium size, very double, Hermosa-pink. Abundant broad, juicy dark green foliage, healthy, last a long time on young canes. Weak arming. Luxuriant growth, upright, up to 3 m. Floriferous; solitaire or in groups in the park. Parents unknown.
