In 1963 Woman’s Day launched an Australia-wide competition for an Australian-raised rose….As a further result of the contest, an entry by Mr. Don Warren of Melbourne, was awarded a special prize by the Editor of Woman’s Day, Mrs. Joan Reeder. This was for a single rose of a clear cherry pink, shading to white at the centre, with decorative stamens. Mr. Warren called and registered it as ‘Charlotte Ives’ my pen name on Woman’s Day. This was one of the nicest compliments paid me during my term as gardening writer for the magazine.
