A reference: "GRUSS VON TANNENHOF. Chr. Friedrich, 1913. The introducer described itas a floriferous white Multiflora. The variety in commerce here is a dark red cluster-flowered Wichuraiana." Source: "Climbing Roses", G.A. Stevens, New York 1933 I wonder whether the plant in the San Jose Heritage Garens has white or red flowers? Grammatically correct is "Gruss vom Tannenhof". Stevens states a Christian Friedrich as breeder. I wonder whether "Lutinghausen" is not an error. Sounds very much like the name of a place. In fact, there is a Lüttringhausen east of Düsseldorf. Maybe the breeder was a Christian Friedrich in Lüttringhausen? |

Unfortunately, this rose is no longer shown in the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden database, so the color of the bloom remains a mystery. You are right about the mistake in the spelling of "Lutinghausen," but there is still no clarity. Brent Dickerson mentions "Luttinghausen," not Lüttringhausen, as a possible alternative breeder. He does mention that Chr. Friedrich is shown as breeder with Lambert.
