'Nessie' rose Description
Photo courtesy of Robert Neil Rippetoe
Bloom:
Light pink. Strong fragrance. Average diameter 2". Semi-double (9-16 petals) bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.
Habit:
Height: up to 9'10" (up to 300cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
Breeder's notes:
Due to the collecting habits of the native, indigenous vermin at my old desert garden, the tag listing the parentage of Nessie was lost. However, I furiously pollinated every bloom of Montecito I could reach with as much Mlle. Cecile Brunner pollen as I could dig out. Because of the fragrance, color, and other characteristics of Nessie, my best educated guess would be she is a product of Montecito X Mlle. Cecile Brunner. Kim Rupert 3/28/10
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
According to Ashdown Roses, this rose is so named because it reminded breeder Kim Rupert of the Loch Ness Monster as it arched out of his rose bed...
MR 12 reports the parentage of Nessie to be a sport of Montecito, but it is more likely to be a seedling of Montecito ... see BREEDER NOTES above.
It is not "more likely" a seedling of Montecito. It is ABSOLUTELY a seedling of Montecito. I raised it. From observing the plant and its characteristics, and knowing what I mainly pollinated Montecito with, I am fairly comfortable the pollen parent of Nessie may well be Mlle. Cecile Brunner. Kim Rupert
