Margaret Furness:  Some years ago a southern nursery sent out........  There may have been a similar swap of Sunlit (thornless, 1937, right) and Busybody (has prickles, 1929, below), two Clark roses with similar form and pink eyelashes. Both are regarded as “cuspy” Tea-HT.

Barbara B. Johnson. The Potted Rosarian. Sunlit. I know, I know some would not consider this little Hybrid Tea rose an Old Garden Rose, however, I just love it. It was bred by our very own Alistair Clarke and released in 1937. It is never without blooms, which are gorgeous, double and a soft apricot in colour.

‘Sunlit’. Hybrid Tea. Bred by Alister Clark of Australia and found only in Australia and New Zealand, this rose was one of his best creations. One of the later introductions, it appeared in 1937. Bushes are of medium height and are quite spreading. Flower production is brilliant and the repeat is excellent. It bears soft apricot, very shapely flowers that fade lighter toward the outside. They are sweetly scented. Foliage is dark green, matt and disease-resistant. (Parentage unknown). Zones 8-10.

‘Sunlit’. Modern, Large-Flowered Hybrid Tea. Apricot blend, Repeat-flowering. One of Alister Clark’s best roses, ‘Sunlit’ bears the richest apricot flowers, which are double, globular and are borne in great profusion for an enormous length of time. This rose even flowers well into winter in mild climates. It has a low to medium growth habit with a abundance of mid-green foliage. There are no disease problems. In 1937, there were very few apricot roses as rich in color as ‘Sunlit’ and because of its color and freedom of bloom, it is still a popular rose. Zones 5-10. Clark, Australia, 1937. Parentage unknown.
