'Kakwa' rose Reviews & Comments

Has anyone ever seen pale pink blooms on their Kakwa? In 2023, we had a very cold, wet April. When our Kakwa bloomed, it had blooms ranging from white to pale pink. In 2024, our Kakwa bloomed white again. Just wondering if we really have a Kakwa or something else. Or does cold weather affect the bloom colour on this plant? Thanks!

In my opinion 'Kakwa' isn't distinctive enough from the typical semi-double, white Rosa spinosissima to warrant having being named and introduced to the nursery trade. In fact, planted side by side they probably look virtually the same. And why wouldn't they, since this cultivar was likely a self-pollinated selection of this particular Scotch rose.

A most delightful spring once bloomer, there is much charm to be found in this plant. Our specimen is a rather large 7-8 ft in the shade, becoming extremely lax with the weight of bud. And what buds! Handsome striped ones plumping up for display of double creamy white blooms. The bloom centers are not bashful and open wide to a sweet extra point of interest. The foliage is healthy and decorative, as well as the striking fruit. An all-season shrub!
