Kew Rambler Breeder: Unknown person at Kew Gardens, 1913, United Kingdom. Parentage: Rosa soulieana x Hiawatha.  Class: hybrid soulieana (hybrid multiflora per ARS).  Be sure to allow plenty of room for this very vigorous rose that can grow to 30 feet or more (9 meters). The fragrant, small, single, cupped, pink flowers with large ivory centres eventually fade almost to white. ..... 'Kew Rambler' was raised from the greyish leaved Rosa soulieana crossed with 'Hiawatha', a single flowered rambler which was popular early in the century but which I have not seen for many years. The flowers, light pink with a white zone, resemble the pollen parent, are produced late in the season and have some scent. It is a distinctive plant, but extremely thorny so requires careful handling.

Graham Thomas. The Value of Shrub Roses in the Garden. 'Kew Rambler' is seldom seen, but it is still grown at Kew. it is one of a few hybrids of Rosa soulieana which again is a Synstylae, and it brings light pink into this big group of creamy-white roses, together with the same fragrance and the greyish foliage of Rosa soulieana itself. It is not quite so vigorous as the others I have shown you and is just a strong growing rambler, suitable for climbing into your old apple trees.
