'Irene Jane' rose References
Website/Catalog (2015) Name: 'Irene Jane' ARS Approved Exhibition Name: Irene Jane HWich, m, Nobbs. Introductions: 1995
Book (2012) Page(s) 119. Includes photo(s). Irene Jane is one of Ken's two grandaughters, the first child of Margaret...... Sometimes the notes from Ken can be confusing for the researcher. Although in his writings the describes 'Irene Jane' as a 'Tausendschon' seedling, the registration paper describes it as 'Tausendschon' seedling with 'Veilchenblau' as pollen parent. It is described on the registration paper as a rambler, but also as a climbing polyantha. The blooms are lavender-pink, double and slightly fragrant on the registration papers, but elsewhere he describes it as deep pink and double. Margaret herself describes this rose with enthusiasm: "This rose gives me a magnificent display each year. It sends out thornfree canes to 3 metres and does not even need staking in my garden. It is disease free and is covered in blooms.... A wonderful rose for a beginner or busy gardener'. The lavender-pink, semi-double flowers are borne in clusters standing erect from late November. The new growth is an unusual wine colour, while older growth reverts back to deep green. This characteristic is typical of 'Mutabilis'.
