Origin:
Bred by Rudolf Geschwind (1829-1910) (Austria-Hungary (former), 1887).
Class:
Hybrid Setigera.  
Bloom:
Deep pink and white.  None / no fragrance.  Large, semi-double to double, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Climbing.  

Height: up to 9'10" (up to 300cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Hardy.

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Ploidy:
Tetraploid
Notes:
According to Erich Unmuth, it is questionable whether 'Virago' in gardens and in commerce is the original Geschwind rose, but 'Josephine Ritter' - see References.
