The handsome leaves of Rosa glomerata have a distinctive leathery texture and worth growing for that alone. It brings to mind another Chinese species, Rosa sinowilsonii with beautiful leaves of polished red lacquer on the underside and rich green above. It was named for E. H. Wilson who also discovered glomerata in Sichuan Province. The Flora of China states glomerata ranges from 1300-3000 m. [4300 to 9800 ft] in the southwest provinces of Guizhou, Hubei, Sichuan and Yunnan along “Forest margins, thickets, scrub, slopes”. My plant came from Quarryhill Botanic Garden and was collected at 6266 ft. also in Sichuan Province.
