Rosa aciphylla ('Cuspidate Rose') Description... 5 very small, pink-flushed white petals... Rosa aciphylla grows near Würzburg where it was discovered on a calcareous hill by Heller and published by Rau with a good illustration by Sturm. The name aciphylla alludes to the pointed leaves... At first glance it looks unlike any other rose, but it seems to be merely a modification of R. canina with ovate leaflets and ovoid receptacle...

Bushes 2 - 2 1/2 feet tall with prickly stem. Straight brown branches, armed with rare almost solitary curved prickles, short thick branchlets.....Five to seven yellowish green leaflets...glabrous on both sides, reticulate, transparent veins, unevenly serrated....Solitary short peduncles, 1 to 1 1/2 lines [2 to 3mm] long , often in clusters of 1-4, glabrous bracts....Petals two to three lines [4 to 6 mm] long, white, slightly redish shaded. Small globose glabrous hips. I have not seen ripe ones.
