Purpurea de Bologna Ruston, 1980. a sport of ‘Variegata de Bologna’ discovered in David Ruston’s garden in Renmark, SA The double and cupped blooms are held in large clusters with unusual, irregular stripes of purplish mauve on a lilac background. Equally as fragrant as its parent and repeats well. 1.8 x 1.5m.

....It was then north to the nursery and garden of Philip Robinson and Greg Lowery at Santa Rosa....Philip's 'Variegata di Bologna' had sported back to a luscious purple flower of great beauty and mine has done the same. I have consulted all the old books from 1909 - the year of introduction and there is no mention from what 'Variegata di Bologna' sported. Tentatively I have called my sport Purpurea di Bologna better I think than Non Variegatea di Bologna.
