I am amazed -- mid-October in zone 8A British Columbia and this rose is throwing out 15 fresh buds. Daily temps between 12-18C, and blooms seem to be OK even in our drizzly rain.

I believe that all 1960s Thanksgiving roses in commerce today are the Warriner cultivar.

I've added a few references and am struck by the word "thornless" in them.
Vintage Gardens used Winnifred Werner's painting of 'Thanksgiving' for their 2006 catalogue front cover and the stems show quite a few thorns. In the painting, the petal reverse is yellow and doesn't seem Pompeian red to me.

When the boom develops during cloudy or rainy weather, the colors are fantastic.
